Ideal for sports people and gym-goers, to aid recovery from injury and improve joint mobility. Sports Massage is carried out at Hemel Massage by highly trained and experienced therapists. They have a passion for injury prevention, event recovery and keeping you in tip top shape along with general MOTs to ensure you are able to perform at your best.

What is Sports Massage?

Sports therapy massage is a combination of deep massage using deep tissue massage techniques, soft tissue release, muscle energy technique, trigger point therapy, positional release and many others to aid recovery from injury and improve soft tissue condition and joint mobility.

Depending on what you need, we will use a combination of these therapies and techniques to create the treatment that will benefit you most.

These techniques are aimed at correcting problems and imbalances caused by repetitive and/or strenuous physical activity or injury. It can help with posture issues, body mis-alignments, overuse, tight muscles and sports injuries.

Sports massage was originally developed to help athletes prepare their bodies for peak performance, recover well and quickly after an event, and so that they can function well during training.

However, sports massage is not just helpful to athletes and in fact, sports massage is highly beneficial to anybody as it concentrates on prevention and healing of injuries to the muscles, tendons and ligaments, the bodies soft tissue.

Soft tissue is connective tissue, which is found throughout the body and includes skin, muscles, ligaments, tendons and fascia, which are all very important for the well-being of our bodies and associated movement.

Sports massage assists in realigning these soft tissues and correcting any imbalances, which may have occurred through exercise, over training or injury.

Is it just for Sports People?

Besides the usual physical and psychological benefits associated with any form of therapeutic massage, regular sports massage does indeed help to aid recovery and enhance the performance in athletes.

A sports massage, before and/or after exercise may enhance performance, aid recovery and prevent injuries. It can be used throughout your training and performance schedule and is best used as a preventative tool rather than leaving it until you have a specific injury or concern. However, it can also be of great benefit to anyone, regardless of activity levels, suffering from chronic pain, restricted range of motion or recovering from a soft tissue injury and can be used to guard against or treat any further issues.

As with other types of massage, sports massage can:

Isn’t sports therapy painful?

Sometimes sports therapy will hurt as the muscles are being released, however it shouldn’t be overly painful and should feel much better a day or two afterwards.

You will come out of the treatment still feeling a sense of relaxation and with muscle tension released. A tailor made treatment using aromatherapy pre-blended oils on a heated comfortable couch, this is a massage for anyone who works out and needs a strong, firm treatment.

If there are particular areas of your body you would like to focus on, we will incorporate that into your treatment so you get just what you need – just let us know in the consultation at the start.
